Wetland Education, totem pole success

In conjunction with Villawood Properties, 39 Lyndhurst Primary students recently stepped outside the classroom to study the benefits of the estate’s establishing wetland system together with the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne.

Conducting experiments on the waterways at Marriott Waters, students learnt about the types of plant and animal life inhabiting the wetlands and how the water bodies interact with the local ecosystem to cleanse storm-water run-off before being deposited back into Melbourne’s water catchments.

Following the education program, Villawood invited students to design and paint their artistic representations of the wetlands onto a set of 12 totem poles that will form a permanent feature on the banks of the water, the designs are currently underway.
